Code of Conduct
In the effort to maintain a fun and comfortable dance space, attendees are expected to follow these conduct guidelines:
Remember…
Events hosted by Austin Blues Dance should be a comfortable space for everyone, regardless of gender identity, race, sexual orientation, disability, religious beliefs, physical appearance, age, or ability. If an attendee exhibits behavior that unreasonably interferes with an individual’s ability to attend or enjoy the event by creating an intimidating, threatening, unsafe, hostile, or abusive environment, that is harassment and it will be taken seriously. Consequences will be determined by the discretion of the Blues Association of Austin board, and can include exclusion from all BAA events.
If you feel uncomfortable or you would like to report harassment, please contact the BAA board through one of the options below. All issues will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.

- Please refrain from offering unsolicited dance advice unless it is necessary to stop dangerous or uncomfortable movement.
- Obtain explicit consent before performing weight-sharing moves (dips, etc). No aerials!
Remember…
- Gender does not imply dance role, nor does it determine who asks who to dance.
- It’s okay to say no to a dance! You are not obligated to dance with anyone.
- If someone turns you down for a dance, it is not a rejection! Smile and seek another partner.
- Invite your partner into close embrace, don’t force it.
- Social Dancing is meant to be a fun activity.
- Dance chemistry does not imply romantic or sexual interest.
- Consent to a dance does not imply consent to any other activity or physical contact.
