Learn more about Blues Dance
First off, what is blues dancing?
What we call “blues dancing” is actually a collection of various regional dances that were created in African American communities throughout the United States from the late 19th to mid 20th century. The various dance styles are direct reflections of the time, the music, the people, and places where they were danced. Despite the great diversity amongst the dances which make up what we refer to as "blues dancing" they share similar aesthetic values that incorporate concepts such as layered body movements, a grounded and earthy feel, and a collaborative partnership. |
